Pre-session work: (Optional) Review  OUTDOOR INVENTORY: School Learning and Teaching Spaces that Support Physical Distancing and the Inventory Intake Form.

Description: Scientific research into the spread of COVID 19 has revealed that fresh air and space between people reduces the risk of sharing the virus. There is also substantial research documenting outside time reduces stress and improves mental health. School grounds could provide opportunities to teach, eat and play outside. Starting off the school year with an analysis of outdoor space that includes teachers, staff and students could both identify the best areas for outdoor time and build a sense of shared community. This session will include information on the benefits of outside time; directions on how to carry out an outdoor space inventory and real-life examples of inventories in progress at Maine schools. Participants will come away with information and materials to carry out an inventory at their school.

Cost of Session: Free
